Shannon Cram

Shannon Cram received her first degree in Geography—a Bachelor’s—in 2002 from Humboldt State University. She then traveled extensively, first exploring South America and then Europe where she taught English while living in Czech Republic. In 2006, she received her Master’s from the University of Oregon after which she traveled in the South Pacific and Asia, this time teaching English in Thailand. Before enrolling in a PhD program at Berkeley in 2008, she had been teaching Geography in two community colleges in Oakland. Upon completion of her doctorate, Shannon plans on teaching Geography or Environmental Studies at a state or liberal arts college.

Regarding her time at Living Wisdom School, Shannon writes, “There is no question that my time at Ananda and in [Living Wisdom School] influenced me in many ways. It certainly gave me a sense of independence and a love for learning and school that sometimes seems to drain out of students going through the public school system…I think that time spent quietly at Ananda, whether learning to meditate or just walking around on such beautiful land, has really helped me have a sense of myself.”
