Our campus
is set amidst the 800 acres of forests, meadows, rolling
hills and gardens that comprise Ananda Village - America’s
premier yoga and meditation community. The 250+ adults
and children who reside at the village offer a supportive
and nurturing environment for the high school students
who have the opportunity of interacting with residents
in a variety of ways. Boarding students are housed in
dormitories. Meals are vegetarian. We are about an hour
and a half’s drive from Lake Tahoe and the summit
of the Sierra Nevada Mountains with their many opportunities
for hiking, skiing and snowboarding. We are also an hour
and a half from Sacramento.

The village
is based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda, author
of Autobiography of a Yogi and founder of the original
Education for Life school in India in 1917. The Ananda
community was founded in 1968 by Yogananda’s direct
disciple, J. Donald Walters (Swami Kriyananda), and the
first Ananda Living Wisdom School began in 1972. The school
philosophy is based on the book Education for Life by
J. Donald Walters. Learn about the
