Boarding
Program (Grades 9-12)
Our boarding facility is set amidst the 800 acres of forests,
meadows, rolling hills and gardens. We are a part of Ananda
Village, a World Brotherhood colony, outside of Nevada
City. Ananda Village residents offer our students a supportive
and nurturing environment in which they can feel safe.
Ananda Village is an alcohol-free, vegetarian, spiritual
community founded on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda.
The residents offer financial support to the school and
many serve as mentors, employers, specialty teachers,
and friends to the high school students.
We welcome foreign students are at Ananda Living Wisdom
School. The United States government has approved us to
accept students from other countries. Our boarding program
continues to attract students from around the world including
India, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Canada, and Germany. Others
come from various parts of the United States.

The village
is based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda, author
of Autobiography of a Yogi and founder of the original
Education for Life school in India in 1917. The Ananda
community was founded in 1968 by Yogananda’s direct
disciple, J. Donald Walters (Swami Kriyananda), and the
first Ananda Living Wisdom School began in 1972. The school
philosophy is based on the book Education for Life by
J. Donald Walters. Learn about the
